“The Jewish Year: Ain’t No Cure for the Summertime Blues”
Summer begins right around when Shavuot — the “feast of weeks” — happens. In rabbinic tradition, Shavuot marks the day on which Moses is said to have ascended Mount Sinai — but the Torah doesn’t say anything about that. So how did a harvest holiday become a story of divine revelation? And why does the summer end with Tisha B’Av — a truly sorrowful holiday marking the destruction of Jerusalem twice over? Find out this week!

Join Rabbi Jeremy each week for a deep dive into different areas of Humanistic Jewish life. Sometimes we’ll study classical Jewish texts, or Jewish philosophy, or a specific work on Jewish ethics. Sometimes we’ll study secular or humanistic ideas about life or society. We’ll always aim to come away with more knowledge than when we arrived!
