The first week of Texts on Tuesday each month is called “What’s That About?!,” and is an hour-long introduction and orientation session to the background, history, and contents of major Jewish works or writers. To kick off the first “What’s That About!?” session, we’ll look at a text that, perhaps more than any other, was central in setting up Judaism as we know it today: the Mishnah, which consolidated Jewish practice in the wake of the destruction of the Second Temple and made rabbis central to Jewish life.
