Texts on Tuesday

November 17, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

This week, we’ll be looking at the historical background of Hanukkah and at Jewish texts that helped define the holiday but that are somewhat less well-known, including the (four!) apocryphal books of the Maccabees, the apocryphal Book of Judith, and the Scroll of Antiochus, a medieval story about Hanukkah that was read in Italian synagogues during the Middle Ages. Each has a different version or take on the Hanukkah story.
