Rosh Hashanah Online: Virtual Tashlich/Havdalah

September 19, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Rosh Hashanah Online ~

September 18:
Erev Rosh Hashanah/Shabbat: 6:30 pm
Rosh Hashanah 5781 and Shabbat both begin on Friday evening, September 18. Join us as we welcome Shabbat and the new year and take a moment to reflect and rest as the Jewish new year begins.

September 19:
Children and Families Service: 9:30 am

Service I — Renew: 10:30 am
Rosh Hashanah is a time for renewal — it’s the start of a new year in the Jewish calendar and the beginning of a time to realign our relationships with one another and our communities. We’ll greet the new year and its opportunities to renew ourselves and our lives with music, poetry, readings, and reflection.

Memorial Service — Remember: 11:15 am
As we move into a new year, we often find ourselves thinking of those we’ve lost. Join us as we remember those we’ve lost and consider the future in light of our memories of those who came and left before us.

Service II — Resolve: 11:30 am
Rosh Hashanah provides a time for us to consider how to make the next year better than the one that came before it. Part of that is committing to do better, and accomplishing that requires that we work to resolve conflicts within ourselves and with others. During this part of our Rosh Hashanah services, we’ll commit to that task and consider resolution as both change and a commitment to make changes.

Virtual Tashlich/Havdalah: 5:00 pm
Tashlich is a long-standing custom of symbolically casting away the prior year’s misdeeds and bad intentions, often near a body of water. Havdalah marks the end of Shabbat and of major Jewish holidays. Join us as, each in our own places, as we mark Shabbat’s end with a humanistic tashlich and havdalah ceremony that can be performed inside or outside.
