Machar and Humanistic Judaism are playing an especially important role in this year’s Human Rights Shabbat. Early last month, Rabbi Jeremy was invited by T’ruah, a human rights advocacy organization for rabbis and cantors that organizes activities for the Human Rights Shabbat program, to write the main d’var Torah (interpretation of the weekly Torah portion) that T’ruah will provide to all participants nationwide in the Human Rights Shabbat program for this year. Thus, a Machar-centered, Humanistic approach to reading the Torah will be one that guides rabbis, cantors, and others for this year’s Human Rights Shabbat events nationwide!
