David Zirin – The Kaepernick Effect: Sports, Politics, and Social Justice
In 2016 San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick shocked the world by taking a
knee to protest police violence and racial inequity. What have we learned since then about
how athletes shape our national politics? Do sports and politics really not mix?
Join Dave Zirin, sports editor of The Nation, to discuss these issues. Zirin, The Nation’s first sports
correspondent in its 155 year history, has authored 11 books on the politics of sports,
including “The Kaepernick Effect: Taking a Knee, Changing the World”. He hosts the
podcast “Edge of Sports” and appears regularly on MSNBC, CNN, and ESPN.
If you would like to participate virtually, please register in advance for this meeting:

You may notice on the registration page that the Zoom meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30am. This is so that the hosts and speakers can get on Zoom, sort out any glitches, and settle in before the presentation begins at 10am. The Adult Ed session itself officially begins at 10am and runs until 11:30am.
