Rachel Laser – Separation of Church and State and Racial Justice: A Critical Nexus

Rachel Laser, the first female and non-Christian president in Americans United for Separation of
Church and State’s 74-year history, will discuss our country’s longstanding relationship between religious freedom and
racism. After explaining the intent of religious freedom and church-state separation in the U.S., she will provide past and present examples of religious freedom’s misuse to advance a white Christian nationalist agenda. She will conclude by leading a discussion about what
we can do to stop the abuse of an ideal that should make us all more, and not less, free.
