Marc Mauer – “Race and Justice” ~

Marc Mauer, a 30-year Machar member and one of the country’s leading experts on sentencing policy, race and the criminal justice system, will lead an interactive session discussing the recent protests and other events following the death of George Floyd.
At the beginning of the session, Marc will offer his thoughts on recent events and then will pose some questions for participants to discuss in breakout groups as we all try to process the issues that continue to be raised regarding the treatment of and opportunities for people of color in the U.S.

Marc is the executive director of The Sentencing Project, a research and advocacy center working to reduce the use of incarceration in the United States and to address racial disparities in the criminal justice system.
Marc has directed programs on criminal justice policy reform for 30 years, and is the author of some of the most widely-cited reports and publications in the field, including “Young Black Men and the Criminal Justice System,” and the “Americans Behind Bars” series comparing international rates of imprisonment.
