Our Jewish Cultural School for children from kindergarten to 7th grade/b mitzvah and meets at 10 a.m. on 24 Sundays starting September 8 thru May 5, 2025. Parents can check the website calendar and notifications in the Weekly Update for the school schedule.  While their children are in class, parents may attend our excellent Adult Education program.

Machar's Sunday school integrates Jewish history, culture, values, and practice into a developmentally appropriate curriculum at each grade level, beginning with our kindergarten year. We also provide post-mitzvah aged teens an opportunity to play a leadership role by having them assist in Jewish Cultural School classrooms and helping to organize community service activities on behalf of the congregation.

Our talented and dynamic teachers incorporate literature, writing, discussion, and the arts to engage children in ways that help them understand and relate to the curriculum content. The curriculum builds, year by year, to create a unified experience in the history and culture of the Jewish people, studied through the framework of our secular humanistic Jewish values.

Observing and understanding the significance of Jewish holidays is an important part of our educational program, and we hold children's services at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur prior to the congregational services. We have annual Hanukkah and Purim parties, and also commemorate other holidays in our inter-generational Community Sunday gatherings. Children learn about holiday traditions in a humanistic context.

Parents contribute to the strength of our Jewish Cultural School. There are many ways to get involved. Whether you want to help with party planning, participate in curriculum development, or host your child’s class for a potluck in your home, our program and your child will benefit from your involvement.
